This fastener was designed with a woven nylon loop backing, covered with thousands of soft, pliable napped loops, providing for thousands of openings and closings (cycles). This fastener is also covered with flexible J-shaped hooks, about 300 hooks per square inch (46 hooks/square cm.), which protrude up from a woven backing. To ensure stability and flatness, both the hook and the corresponding loop are preshrunk.
